An original painting on stretched canvas by Alaska artist Scott McDaniel (1926-2012) depicting the Aurora Borealis and a musher with his sled dog team as they approach the Alice May, a derelict stern-wheeler located on the marge of Lake LeBarge in Yukon, Canada. The fictional steamer is the site of The Cremation of Sam McGee, a poem c.1907 by Robert W. Service (1874-1958), and based upon the real-life experience of his roommate who cremated a corpse in the firebox of a similar steamer, the Olive May. Signed lower left by the artist, housed in a wide wooden frame. Measures approximately 26.5" x 32.5" overall.
