Part of October 2023 Premier Auction (live auction by Alaska Premier Auctions & Appraisals)

High bid $8,700.00

Status: No sale

Category: Art: Alaskan Originals

An original oil on masonite by the late Alaska artist Fred Machetanz (1908-2002) entitled "From Arctic Waters." The work depicts a polar bear climbing out of the Arctic water onto an ice floe; ice dots the water behind the bear, and the dark cloudy sky provides little warmth to our majestic subject. Signed and dated 1962 by the artist lower right, and again en verso. The work is in need of a professional cleaning and displays some craquelure, most evident below the bear's front paws. Matted and housed within a dark frame measuring approximately 33" x 27" overall, image sight 24" x 18".  ***This lot has a reserve.
