A signed and numbered 270/950 print by Alaska artist Fred Machetanz (1908-2002) entitled "The Sourdough". The work depicts Ed Ueeck, a genuine trapper who arrived in Alaska during the 1920s, wearing his pre-World War I military parka that was prized by the old timers, and carrying supplies in his pack as does his dog with his saddle bags; Ed is crouched and adjusting the thong on his snowshoe before they continue on their way. During the 1961 Anchorage Fur Rendezvous, Ed won the title of "Mr. Furface" in a beard-growing contest. Numbered lower left, signed in pencil by the artist lower right, the print is matted and framed in wood; print sits slightly askew behind the mat as photographed. Measures approximately 31" x 35.25" overall.
