A signed and numbered 26/56 artist proof by the late Alaskan artist Fred Machetanz (1908-2002) entitled "Reaching the Pass". The artwork depicts a sled dog team straining toward the crest of a mountain pass, just before the musher steps onto the runners for the swift descent downhill. Note left of center reads "Best wishes from all the mushers." Signed in graphite by the artist, lower right, and by eleven mushers including Dick Wilmarth (1973), Carl Huntington (1974), Emmitt Peters (1975), Gerald "Jerry" Riley (1976), Rick Swenson (1977, 1979, 1981, 1982, 1991), Dick Mackey (1978), Joe May (1980), Lance Mackey (2007, 2008, 2009, 2010), Rick Mackey (1983), Dean Osmar (1984), and Libby Riddles (1985). Also signed by Edgar P. Nollner, Sr., and Charlie Evans, two honorary mushers who ran the Diphtheria Serum Run of 1925. Matted and framed (frame demonstrates some misalignment at the corners as photographed), it measures approximately 35" x 45" overall.
