A signed and numbered 262/950 print by Alaska artist Fred Machetanz (1908-2002) entitled "Tundra Flower", depicting late spring in the Arctic, and life for Alaska Native people eases as the days grow longer and longer, and the rays of the returning sun warmer and warmer. It is a time of going outdoors to savor the thawed and greening tundra and to welcome fish runs and returning wildflowers. Women, who always take their children along, will gather tender green willow shoots, trap squirrels and hunt eggs. It is a good opportunity for the young ones to explore on their own and to learn to identify edibles. Soon, there will be a carpet of flowers but, until then, this young lady, in her brightly colored parka cover, is the fairest flower of them all. Numbered lower left and signed lower right in graphite by the artist, the print is matted and framed with information about the artist and artwork en verso. Measures approximately 29" x 33" overall.
