A c.1973 Alaska State Museum "29th Annual Alaskan Arts & Crafts Show" silkscreen poster by Alaska artist Rie Muñoz and Juneau, Alaska artist Jay Crondahl (b.1935). The event was held May 4-5, 1973, at the museum located in Juneau. The poster, officially entitled "Purple Whale", depicts a stylized purple bowhead whale above a green ocean. The painting is accompanied by a note from the Rie Muñoz Gallery that reads "Purple Whale: This poster is signed by Rie Muñoz and Jay Crondahl. He was a good friend and fellow artist who helped with the color choices on this fun silkscreen poster." While not much is known about Crondahl individually, he and his wife Judy were well-known in and around Juneau and spent twenty years running Crondahl's Bed & Breakfast while enjoying art, music, and bicycling. It is known Jay Chrondahl was a good neighbor of Rie's, and they spent time sketching together, including at least one trip to Pack Creek on Admiralty Island where they observed a brown bear sow wander near the cozy cabin of their host. Shrink-wrapped on board measuring approximately 22" x 28" overall, with a sight view of 18" x 26.26.
