A hand-painted cheese board on wood by Alaska artist Rie Muñoz. In August 1967, the artist spent a month in Skagway during which she sketched and painted watercolors of the area, and additionally went beachcombing to gather old beach planks that had turned silver in the sun. Rie would sketch a design, she and her son would paint them, and then Rie would outline the image in black. She and Juan sold the boards for $5 to $10 each to tourists passing through Skagway that summer. This example depicts a formline Raven in red, blue, and black paint; it is entitled "Raven" and initialed R.M. by the artist en verso. An article describing the project accompanies as shown. The board has a drilled hole at one end with a leather thong for hanging; the board measures approximately 11" x 3.5" wide.
