Category: Art

A collage of three hand-cut and paint-covered Mylar stencils by Alaska artist Rie Muñoz, each representing a seal in a slightly different position. Also includes a representative piece of art entitled "Seal Rookery". The piece, in shades of black and orange, depicts more than a dozen stenciled seals, some within the water and some sunning themselves upon a rock. Mounted to board with a typed description that reads: "These are Rie Muñoz stencils that she used in 1970 on studies for "Rookery". After many different trial stencils which she would cut out of Mylar, she would take a new sponge and dip it in her watercolor paint. Rie would then simply 'dab' the sponge on the stencil and remove it. This technique can yield nice complex designs on the paper that are relatively easy to apply." Shrink-wrapped on board measuring approximately 12" x 15.25".
