A signed and numbered 78/95 serigraph by Alaska artist Rie Muñoz entitled "Spring". The art depicts a grouping of skunk cabbage, a plant that grows in the woods or open, swampy areas along the coast of Southeast Alaska and Kodiak Island. The large oblong leaves measure 2" to 4" long and, as a very early bloomer, the flowers often appear before the leaves, and even before the snow is gone. Numerous tiny flowers grow on an elongated, fleshy spike (spathe) that is partially enclosed by a bright yellow leaf/bract (spadix). The strong odor of the skunk cabbage blossoms attracts insects and bees that pollinate it, the fleshy roots are a spring food for bears, the leaves are consumed by deer, but the plant is inedible for people. Titled, numbered, signed, and dated by the artist c.1977 across the bottom margin. Shrink-wrapped on board measuring approximately 15.25" x 17" with a sight view of 13.25" x 15".
