A c.1989 original concept by Alaska artist Rie Muñoz entitled "Ark in Alaska". The work portrays Noah standing on the bow of his ark, a peace dove flying above his head. Upon and alongside the ark are Alaska-native wildlife including a pair of Canadian geese, an owl, two red foxes, two caribou, two walruses, two halibut, a mermaid, a school of nine fish, a whale, a pair of birds, a seal, and a second group of three salmon. The sketch is accompanied by a note from the Rie Muñoz Gallery that reads "This display shows the sequence of work by Rie Muñoz of one of her most well known images, "Ark in Alaska". Starting with a concept A, then on to a finished watercolor painting, not shown. She liked the scene so Rie decided to make a silkscreen (serigraph) of the Ark in Alaska. The artist hand-cut the Mylar for each color of the silkscreen B. The atelier then pulled the colors over the screens for the entire edition, one at a time, making sure the registration marks align so it isn't blurry. The final silkscreen is shown C." The artist worked on this idea for three or four years, first in her head and then on paper; eventually she achieved the result she was seeking. Piece shows some line drawing, and some colored areas, the registration marks, and various "x" marks and notations from the artist. An artist proof of "Ark in Alaska" and the original Mylar stencils are both available within this auction for your bidding pleasure. Shrink-wrapped on board measuring approximately 18" x 22.25" with a sight view of 17.25" x 21.5".
