A c.1990s original watercolor work-in-progress by Alaska artist Rie Muñoz entitled "Sunday Morning". The work depicts a small jewel of a church, St. Nicholas Russian Orthodox, located in the heart of Juneau, only a few blocks down the hill from the artist's house. Come Sunday mornings, the bells chime, calling the congregation to gather for the early morning service; as shown the congregation is approaching the church and filing inside for worship, a large tree in the background. This partially finished original watercolor painting was started, and then the artist quit this piece halfway through as she didn't like how it was coming out. Specifically, she didn't approve of all the congregation looking at the viewer of the painting. The next painting she did of the same subject she liked and published a limited edition print; it was less busy, and the focal point became two people and the welcoming priest. The lithograph is included in this auction for your bidding pleasure. Matted and shrink-wrapped, measuring approximately 18.5" x 14.5," with a sight view of 11.5" x 7.5".
