A double-sided original work-in-progress by Alaska artist Rie Muñoz with two very different images on either side of the paper. One side depicts a Russian church with a large onion-shaped spire, set among trees on a hill, and tentatively identified as Kodiak or Unalaska. Enhanced in areas with watercolor, light pencil marks indicate the presence of two geese, a flower box, and mountains in the distance. The other side captures a flowing, wave-like formation of birds in flight, commonly seen in auklets who create massive, undulating swarms that move across the sky in the Aleutian Islands. Below, faintly drawn in pencil, is a man in a partially painted rowboat. Both sides have test brush strokes of color along the top edge. Paper measures approximately 11.5" x 8". While undated, stylistically, the work aligns with the 1990s or early 2000s.
