This example came to us in great overall condition for its age and includes the original removable hardtop, adding year-round usability and collector appeal. Powered by a 5.6L V8 gasoline engine paired with an automatic transmission and rear-wheel drive, the 560 SL was the top U.S.-market SL model of its era. These cars are known for their solid Mercedes-Benz build quality, refined driving feel, timeless styling, and grand touring capability. Factory features include independent suspension, four-wheel disc brakes, power steering, leather-trimmed interior appointments, and a well-insulated convertible design suitable for both open-air cruising and hardtop use. The interior presents very well, showing minimal wear and tear for the year. The cabin has been kept clean and tidy, with upholstery, trim, and controls appearing well cared for overall. The exterior also shows nicely, with only minor age-related wear and cosmetic imperfections observed, while still presenting in great condition for a 1988 vehicle. Mechanically, the vehicle did start and run during our handling, though a couple of issues were noted. There appears to be a coolant leak near the thermostat area, which has left small drips and should be inspected prior to regular use. The battery also appears to need replacement. A trickle charger has been hard-wired into the trunk; however, a battery jump box was still required to provide enough power for starting. This classic Mercedes-Benz 560 SL offers a desirable combination of V8 power, elegant styling, original hardtop, and well-kept presentation.
