An impressive adult-sized fossil tooth from the extinct giant shark Otodus megalodon, recovered from West Java, Indonesia. Measuring a substantial 4.76" in height, the specimen exhibits attractive cream and tan coloration with a well-preserved root and bourlette and retains largely intact serrated cutting edges, making it a particularly display-worthy example of one of the most iconic fossils of the prehistoric seas. Megalodons inhabited the world's oceans approximately 23 to 3.6 million years ago and are considered the largest sharks ever known, with some estimates placing their maximum length at nearly eighty feet. Because shark skeletons are composed primarily of cartilage, which rarely fossilizes, teeth such as this provide the principal evidence for studying these ancient apex predators and have become among the most sought-after marine fossils. The phosphate-rich deposits of West Java have produced some of the finest and largest Megalodon teeth known, often displaying appealing natural coloration and excellent preservation. This specimen presents with strong symmetry, an attractive light-toned enamel blade, and prominent root structure, creating a striking and highly collectible example from one of the world's most famous fossil-producing regions. A remarkable piece of natural history from one of the most formidable predators ever to inhabit the Earth. Measures approximately 4.76" long x 4" wide.
