Four bird sculptures with contrasting materials and treatments. Peter Ellanna’s walrus ivory bird stands beside four small eggs in a hollow on its soapstone base; finely scrimshawed wing feathers and baleen-inlaid eyes and dark beak accents enliven the pale figure. His name is inscribed across the front of the base. A stepped soapstone rookery, signed D. Mayac underneath, carries a lively group of black-and-white walrus ivory birds on projecting ledges. A compact gray soapstone owl signed Tetpon Sr. has broad circular eyes and lightly incised feathering. The fourth sculpture is a spread-wing Heritage Pewter owl with a separate branch-form mount. The pewter owl is detached from its branch, as photographed. Largest: Approximately 3" x 1" x 6" high.
