Two small walrus ivory compositions led by a kayak-and-seal-hunter carving by Iñupiaq artist Aloysius Pikonganna (1909–1986). The hooded hunter holds a long paddle across the boat, with a raised harpoon and line above and two seals carried on the deck. Incised black details define the kayak fittings, while the artist’s name is written along one side. A companion rookery places pale carved seabirds at different levels on a richly textured, cliff-like support and ivory base. Pikonganna’s work is represented in the Smithsonian’s National Museum of the American Indian. Pikonganna carving approximately 6" x 1" x 1.25".
