A ladies’ Benrus wristwatch fitted with an expandable band of carved walrus ivory panels and mineralized walrus ivory spacers. Relief-carved whales, walruses, seals and swans alternate around the band, their incised details standing out against the warm cream ivory. Signed by Iñupiaq carver Lincoln Milligrock (1931–2010) of Little Diomede, Alaska, the band brings a distinctive small-scale sculptural quality to this wearable piece. His work is represented in the Smithsonian’s National Museum of the American Indian. The band is loose. The watch bears a water-resistance designation; present water resistance was not tested. The band measures approximately 6.25" in circumference. Note: This item was tested briefly for functionality at time of cataloging and working properly at that time. As with any mechanical clocks or timepieces, functionality is not guaranteed due to their sensitive nature, nor has testing been conducted for functionality or accuracy for more than a few minutes of observation.
