A goose-and-egg sculpture signed Aningayou, attributed to the Siberian Yupik carving family from Gambell on St. Lawrence Island, Alaska. An open, porous whalebone vertebra becomes a nest-like setting for the bird, whose smoothly polished bone body and upright baleen neck create a striking contrast of textures. A pale walrus ivory chin marking accents the dark head, and a separate walrus ivory egg completes the composition. The bird can be lifted from its fitted recess in the base. Measures approximately 4.5" x 3" x 5.25".
