A charming miniature hunting-camp diorama by Iñupiaq carver Dwight S. Milligrock Sr. (1911–1994) of Diomede, Alaska. Pale walrus ivory figures and structures are arranged on a sealskin-covered base: a hooded hunter with paddle, a stored boat on a raised rack, a small elevated cache and a tethered dog. A hide-drying frame provides the tall focal point, its lashed mineralized walrus ivory slab suggesting a stretched skin. The artist’s name appears on the slab. The elevated cache lifts off and can be placed back in position, and protective felt covers the underside of the base. Approximately 4" x 4" x 2.25" tall.
