A compact resting-hunter carving by Iñupiaq carver Earl Mayac (1938–2010), originally from King Island, Alaska. Richly shaded mineralized walrus ivory follows the reclining figure, with warm amber, smoky brown and pale areas adding depth to the polished surface. The hooded hunter rests on his side beside a bow and arrow, one hand holding an upright spear. Incised hood details and contrasting pale hunting equipment bring considerable character to the small composition. Signed E. Mayac beneath. Fine surface fissures are visible. Measures approximately 3.75" x 1.25" x 2".
