A walrus ivory walrus carving on a porous whalebone slab, combining the smooth, pale animal with a richly textured base. The full rounded body, deeply defined shoulder folds and long descending tusks give the miniature a substantial sculptural character. Scrimshaw and dark baleen inlays define the snout, eyes and flippers. The whalebone base has an approximately 1" fissure that appears naturally occurring and stable. Measures approximately 4.75" x 2.5" x 2.5" tall.
