An unusual Athabascan skin canoe model by Emma Northway of Tanacross, Alaska, with animal gut and hide construction over a wooden framework. The long, open hull, carefully wrapped seams and accompanying miniature wooden paddles give the model a strong sense of the full-size craft it represents. Its Athabascan attribution distinguishes it from the more commonly encountered Iñupiaq and Yupik skin-boat models. An attached label identifies Emma Northway, Tanacross, Alaska, and is dated March 10, 1986. The hide shows wear, small tears and areas of separation along the seams. Measures approximately 33" x 5.25" x 6.25" tall.
