A beautifully worked shallow birchbark basket by Deg Xit’an (Athabascan) artist Edna Deacon of Grayling, Alaska. Root stitching neatly joins the shaped bark panels, and split-root wrapping reinforces the broad circular rim. Vivid blue, red and yellow bands enliven the edge, with small wrapped accents continuing onto the interior. The colorful border sets off the bark’s warm tones and naturally varied surface. Approximately 11.5" in diameter x 3" tall.
