A lively whalebone hand-drummer sculpture by Alaska artist Kent R. Heindel (b. 1962). The figure balances on one leg with the opposite knee and arm raised, its open-mouthed carved bone face conveying the energy of the performance. A bentwood-framed drum with a translucent head extends to one side, while the porous vertebra base and incised parka details contrast with the smoother face. Signed Heindel on the figure; felt covers the underside of the base. The drumstick is disconnected from the raised hand. Fissures are visible in the figure and base. Measures approximately 5.5" x 4" x 15.25" tall.
