Two imaginative mixed-material transformation sculptures by Iñupiaq carver Jerome Saclamana (b. 1963), originally from King Island, Alaska. Whale Hunter pairs a narrow, feather-accented half-face in richly figured mammoth ivory with a small whale, separated by a dark baleen panel and raised above a rectangular ivory base. Owl Spirit presents an elongated walrus ivory mask with asymmetrical eye details, three feathers above and a small bristled accent at the mouth, set on a teardrop-shaped base. The contrasting mammoth ivory, pale and mineral-colored ivory, dark baleen and soft feathers are central to the works’ sculptural character. Both are signed and titled. The larger measures approximately 2.25" x 1" x 5".
