A Chinese Madonna and Child image on silk combining Christian devotional subject matter with flowing Chinese robes, curling cloud forms and a vivid blue ground. Golden halos frame Mary and the child, while white birds and long trailing ribbons enliven the composition. The inscription reads 方濟李天鐸敬繪 (respectfully painted by Francis Li Tianduo), accompanied by red seals. The inscription records the named artist of the image; the execution of this particular silk impression has not been established as hand painting. The silk has creases, spotting and a small tear at the lower edge. Also included is a reproduction of Sir Frank Brangwyn’s (British, 1867–1956) Study for the etching Abbey of St. Leonard, Tours (Gaunt 215). The larger measures approximately 21.25" x 15.5".
