A walrus ivory scrimshaw container pairing a miniature ice-fishing scene with a fitted baleen lid. A hooded figure works over a small ice hole, framed by a low horizon, a crescent moon and a sun rising at the opposite side. The spare black linework contrasts with the softly shaded ivory, while a diamond-shaped brown mammoth ivory finial provides a warm accent above the dark lid. The underside bears a worn, partly legible inscription. Surface wear and fine checks are visible. Accompanied by an amber-brown mammoth ivory letter opener with a shaped grip and tapered blade. The container measures approximately 2" x 1.25" x 2" tall; the letter opener measures approximately 7.25" long x 0.5" deep.
