Welcome to the October 2026 Curiosities Auction hosted by Alaska Premier Auctions & Appraisals! Bid Online Now at: https://bid.alaskapremierauctions.com/ui/auctions/168564 The pleasure of collecting is finding something you didn’t know you were looking for. A towering kudu. A finely woven Yup’ik basket. Classic tube audio. Solid gold dental appliances. Behold our latest Curiosities Auction, where the unexpected is part of the appeal. Across over 575 lots, this sale brings together Alaska Native artistry, antique furnishings, wildlife displays, historical treasures, and decades of collecting interests. Come looking for a particular artist, a missing piece, or something distinctive for your home. Give yourself time to discover what else is here. Alaska Native art is one of the sale’s strongest attractions, with more than 100 lots featuring ivory. Explore wildlife carvings, intricate scrimshaw, jewelry, hunting-camp dioramas and imaginative figures, including works by Jerome Saclamana, Justin Tiulana and members of the Milligrock family. Rob Martin’s soapstone blanket-toss sculpture and David Oksoktaruk’s elaborate loon spirit mask join works incorporating whalebone, baleen, antler and wood. Miniature boats, dog sleds and scenes of Arctic life reveal remarkable attention to detail. Basketry, beadwork and traditional clothing add another dimension. Birchbark and coiled-grass baskets—including examples by Edna Deacon and Florence Clement—appear alongside sealskin mukluks, caribou-fur mittens, beaded footwear, hide masks and dolls. From delicate stitching to bold geometric patterns, these pieces offer a rich range of regional materials and craftsmanship. The wildlife selection makes an impression of its own. Alaska black bear displays, moose, caribou, antlers and skulls share the catalog with African safari mounts featuring kudu, wildebeest, warthog, eland, impala and other antelope. A zebra hide rug, northern pike mount and framed butterfly and moth displays broaden the natural-history offering. Look closer for mammoth ivory, mineralized walrus ivory, scrimshawed whale teeth, fossils, an amethyst cathedral and a striking 95-inch baleen plate. For the home, discover richly carved French walnut, Chinese display cabinetry, ingenious Danish furnishings, mirrored sideboards, cedar-lined chests and patterned rugs. Cloisonné enamels, Japanese Imari-style porcelain, a Russian brass samovar and decorative glass bring color and texture to the mix. Original paintings, including work by Nick Chavez, and signed prints by Nita Engle, Tok Hwang, Fred Thrasher and others offer Alaska scenery, wildlife and collecting appeal. Gold jewelry, walrus and mammoth ivory necklaces, jade accents and sterling silver provide discoveries on a smaller scale. History, exploration and the printed word are especially well represented. Browse nineteenth-century geological surveys, F. V. Hayden publications, Yellowstone and national park books, Richard Irving Dodge’s Our Wild Indians, author inscriptions and material connected to notable park figures. Antique photographs, Alaska ephemera and German bond certificates extend the paper trail. An extensive selection of World War I- and World War II-era military binoculars includes Bausch & Lomb and SARD models with the markings and variations that reward specialist attention. Music lovers have plenty of reasons to linger. Vinyl spans classic rock, country, folk, jazz, soul and pop, with names including The Beatles, Bob Dylan, Elvis Presley, Prince, Michael Jackson, Fleetwood Mac and Stevie Nicks. Explore an Audio Research tube preamplifier, Carver Amazing ribbon loudspeakers, Magneplanar panels, a JVC automatic turntable and an assortment of classic hi-fi components. Film cameras from Leica, Nikon, Pentax and Minolta join camcorders, vintage electronics and a 1998 Gateway multimedia computer. Then follow the delightful detours: a W. & T. Avery balance scale, wooden decoys, Japanese glass fishing floats, collectible dolls, kaleidoscopes, wooden toys and a circa-1946 Mickey Mouse Library of Games. Workshop tools, exercise equipment, kitchenware and household furnishings bring practical opportunities into the treasure hunt—and those gold dental appliances ensure the sale lives up to its name.
