Three photographs documenting the 1972 Overland Expedition climb of Mt. Denali via the challenging Traleika Spur route. The first is a self-portrait of Johnny Johnson taken at -60 degrees Fahrenheit. Frost and ice cling to his hair, eyebrows and beard, with small icicles hanging around his mouth. The second shows the expedition party before the climb, with the members gathered outdoors in their climbing clothes. This group photograph also appears on page 31 of Johnson's book. The third shows Johnny after the climb, standing on snowshoes with a large pack and gear on his back. Wearing a red cap and mittens, he leans forward with his tongue out toward the camera. The self-portrait is matted and framed, while the other photographs are housed in simple wooden frames. The largest measures approximately 20" x 16" overall.
