A signed artist's proof photograph by Alaska wildlife photographer Johnny Johnson (1947–2025), accompanied by the February 1986 issue of National Geographic in which the image was published. Entitled "Grizzly Sow and Spring Cubs", the photograph bears a ©1989 inscription and AP mark. The mother bear moves through tall green grass with her small cubs close beneath her. Sunlight catches her brown coat and the tops of the grasses, while small wildflowers rise in front of the dark trees behind the family. A personal note on the reverse reads: "Page 182-183. Image made while on National Geographic Assignment for Johnny Johnson in Katmai Nat'l Pk published Issue No 2 Vol 169 Feb 1986. Only 1 AP was made of image". The artist's proof is shrink-wrapped on board and measures approximately 16.5" x 20.5".
