Manufacturer: Mossberg Type: Shotgun Model: 500A Caliber: 12Ga Barrel Length: 18.5" Optics: Iron Sights ATF Form 4473 Required: Yes Log: 4273 S/N: L969993 Ref #: N/A Notes: A Mossberg 500A 12-gauge pump-action shotgun with an 18.5-inch barrel, decorative scrollwork receiver and walnut furniture. The checkered walnut stock and forearm, ventilated recoil pad and gold-colored trigger give this example a more decorative sporting appearance than a plain synthetic-stock configuration. A black adjustable carrying sling is attached beneath the buttstock and near the magazine tube. The black-finished receiver is paired with a blued steel barrel and an under-barrel tubular magazine. A front bead provides a simple sighting reference along the barrel. The sliding walnut forearm operates the pump mechanism through dual action bars, while the tang-mounted safety and action release beside the trigger guard are characteristic Model 500 features. Introduced in 1961, the Mossberg 500 became one of the longstanding American pump-shotgun platforms, with configurations spanning hunting, clay targets and general-purpose use. This barrel is marked for both 2¾-inch and 3-inch 12-gauge shells. Its short barrel, wood-stock form and sling bring together a compact configuration with the traditional handling surfaces of a sporting pump shotgun. The receiver's scroll decoration remains clear and the metal finish is generally presentable. The forearm has substantial finish loss, discoloration and abrasion, while the buttstock has scattered scratches and dents. Lighter handling wear is present on the receiver and barrel.
