Manufacturer: Remington Type: Shotgun Model: Sportsman 12 Auto Caliber: 12ga Barrel Length: 28" Optics: Iron Sights ATF Form 4473 Required: Yes Log: 4265 S/N: N953342v Ref #: N/A Notes: A Remington Sportsman 12 Auto 12-gauge semi-automatic shotgun with a 28-inch ventilated-rib barrel and brown wooden stock and forearm. Its plain black receiver, checkered pistol grip and long, rounded forearm reflect the model's straightforward sporting character. The barrel is marked for 2¾-inch shells and has a front bead above the rib. Produced in 1985–1986, the Sportsman 12 Auto was an economical variation of Remington's Model 1100, retaining the gas-operated action in a simplified finish and hardwood-stock configuration. Its brief mid-1980s production places it among Remington's attempts to offer the established 1100 mechanism at a lower price point. The model name is marked on the receiver's left side. The gas system cycles the semi-automatic action and spreads the recoil impulse over the operating cycle, a defining distinction from a manually operated pump shotgun. This example has a right-side ejection port and charging handle, a crossbolt safety and an under-barrel tubular magazine. The long barrel and ventilated rib provide an extended sighting plane, with a conventional full-length buttstock and black buttplate completing the sporting layout. The wood has numerous scratches, dents and areas of finish loss, particularly on the buttstock. The metal finish is extensively thinned and discolored, with scattered oxidation on the receiver and barrel. Wear is also present on the buttplate.
