Manufacturer: Swiss Type: Rifle Model: Model 1911 infantry rifle Caliber: 7.5x55 Swiss Barrel Length: 30" Optics: Iron Sights ATF Form 4473 Required: Yes Log: 4241 S/N: 465500 Ref #: N/A Notes: A Swiss Schmidt-Rubin Model 1911 infantry rifle in 7.5x55 Swiss, with an approximately 30-inch barrel and full-length military wooden stock and upper handguard. The long infantry-rifle configuration is distinct from the shorter K11 carbine. Blued steel, reddish-brown bolt-handle knobs and the extended graduated rear sight give the rifle the characteristic appearance of the earlier Swiss straight-pull service arms. This rifle dates to 1918. Produced at Waffenfabrik Bern, the Model 1911 developed from the Schmidt-Rubin family for the GP11 service cartridge. It forms an important stage between the earlier Swiss straight-pull rifles and the later K31. The action's internal cam rotates the locking sleeve as the operating handle moves fore and aft, distinguishing the mechanism from a conventional turn-bolt rifle with an externally lifted handle. The wooden furniture extends almost to the muzzle and is secured by barrel bands and a front nose cap. An unhooded front blade and graduated tangent rear sight retain the military sighting arrangement. The stock has a contoured wrist, straight comb and steel buttplate, with sling attachment points, a front stacking hook and a bayonet mounting arrangement completing the military fittings. One detachable six-round box magazine is fitted. Serial 465500 is visible on the receiver, bolt sleeve and magazine base, documenting correspondence among those three numbered components. The long barrel and widely separated sights reflect the full-length infantry-rifle format of its period. No bayonet or sling accompanies the rifle. The stock and handguard have numerous dents, scratches and areas of thinning finish. The metal shows worn blue, light oxidation and discoloration around the receiver, bands and muzzle fittings, with further wear on the steel buttplate. Rear-sight graduations and the visible component numbers remain legible.
