The blued steel action sits in a brown wooden stock extending beneath the receiver and forearm, with a pistol-grip wrist and black buttplate. The barrel is marked for a 2¾-inch chamber. Made by Savage Arms under the Stevens name, the Model 58 belongs to the economical bolt-action shotgun tradition that spanned the 1930s through the 1960s. These repeating shotguns offered a simple manually operated alternative to contemporary pump and semi-automatic designs, combining a rifle-like bolt arrangement with a sporting shotgun barrel and stock. The right-side rotating bolt and exposed ejection port sit above the detachable magazine. A manual safety is positioned near the rear of the action, and a curved trigger is enclosed by the guard beneath it. The 28-inch barrel and front bead form a conventional field-shotgun sighting arrangement, while the full-length wooden stock maintains traditional sporting proportions. The stock has numerous scratches and dents, with thinning finish and areas of darkening. The receiver and barrel show worn finish, localized discoloration and minor oxidation. The detachable magazine and buttplate also show exterior wear.
