Manufacturer: Savage Type: Shotgun Model: 951 Caliber: .410 Bore Barrel Length: 24" Optics: Iron Sights ATF Form 4473 Required: Yes Log: 4266 S/N: NSN Ref #: N/A Notes: A Savage Model 951 .410 bore single-shot bolt-action shotgun with a 24-inch barrel and plain hardwood sporting stock. The blued receiver and barrel are paired with a gently curved pistol-grip wrist, straight comb and black buttplate. A bead sight is fitted near the muzzle, and the barrel is marked for both 2½-inch and 3-inch shells. The Model 951 reflects the economical, utilitarian sporting-shotgun tradition associated with Savage and Stevens. Its single-shot bolt action places the chamber in a rifle-like receiver without a projecting box magazine. The right-side bolt handle, open ejection port and single trigger within a rounded guard form an uncomplicated arrangement beneath the slender barrel. The .410 bore uses a smaller shot payload than larger shotgun gauges and has long been associated with light sporting arms for small game and informal target shooting. The twenty-four-inch barrel and unadorned wooden stock maintain a straightforward field configuration. The wood shows scattered scratches, small dents and finish wear, with more pronounced abrasion at the buttplate edges. Much of the dark metal finish remains, with localized thinning and discoloration.
