The P22 brings the contours and controls of a modern service-style pistol to a compact rimfire format, combining an exposed hammer and double-action/single-action trigger with a lightweight, textured grip frame. The frame has molded finger contours, textured side panels and an interchangeable-backstrap design. An accessory rail runs ahead of the trigger guard, while the magazine release uses the paddle arrangement at the rear of the guard. Slide-mounted safety levers are accessible from either side. These features give the P22 a distinctive control layout and a more fully developed grip profile than the simple slab-sided form of many small rimfire pistols. A fixed front sight and adjustable rear sight provide the sighting system. Rear slide serrations, the exposed hammer and the Walther banner are prominent details of the black-finished upper assembly. German maker and proof markings accompany the P22 designation, with Smith & Wesson import markings on the right side of the frame. The blowback-operated action is paired with the mild recoil and economical ammunition of .22 Long Rifle, a combination associated with recreational target shooting and introductory marksmanship. The pistol presents well, with light handling and edge wear. The dark finish remains generally even and the grip texture is well defined.
