Manufacturer: Russian Type: Rifle Model: M91/30 Caliber: 7.62x54R Barrel Length: 28.75" Optics: Iron Sights ATF Form 4473 Required: YES Log: 4238 S/N: RMN0133855 Ref #: N/A Notes: A Russian Mosin-Nagant M91/30 bolt-action rifle in 7.62×54R, with a 28.75-inch barrel, socket spike bayonet and tan web sling. The reddish-brown wooden stock and handguard retain the rifle’s long military profile, while the sling’s leather attachment loops pass through the stock slots in the traditional arrangement. The rifle has a straight bolt handle, fixed five-round magazine, graduated tangent rear sight and hooded front sight. Two barrel bands secure the fore-end and handguard, with a cleaning rod beneath the barrel and a steel buttplate at the rear. The bayonet is separate from the rifle and has its own stamped number. PW Arms, Redmond, Washington import markings and serial RMN0133855 identify this example. A socket spike bayonet accompanies the rifle. The barrel carries the Izhevsk arsenal’s arrow-in-triangle mark. This example has the round-receiver configuration associated with later Soviet M91/30 production. Regular production of round receivers began at Izhevsk in 1935 and at Tula in 1936, placing this configuration in the mid-1930s and later production period. These introduction dates describe the receiver type; they do not establish this individual rifle’s exact year of manufacture. The M91/30 represents the Soviet development of the Mosin-Nagant system adopted in 1891. Its full-length wood, fixed magazine and long sighting plane illustrate the infantry-rifle design conventions of its era. The sling, bayonet and cleaning rod preserve much of the characteristic external equipment associated with that configuration. The stock has handling dents, scratches and worn areas of finish. The metal shows patina and finish thinning, with the dark finish remaining visible across the larger receiver and barrel surfaces.
