Manufacturer: Russian Type: Rifle Model: M91/30 Caliber: 7.62x54R Barrel Length: 28.75" Optics: Iron Sights ATF Form 4473 Required: YES Log: 4237 S/N: 9130412746 Ref #: N/A Notes: A Russian Mosin-Nagant M91/30 bolt-action rifle in 7.62×54R, with a 28.75-inch barrel and a light honey-colored wooden stock. An additional darker wooden stock and handguard assembly accompanies the rifle, together with a web sling. The group contains one firearm and a separate stock assembly. The rifle retains a straight bolt handle, fixed magazine, graduated rear sight and hooded front sight. Barrel bands secure the long fore-end and upper handguard, and a cleaning rod runs beneath the barrel. Sling slots and a steel buttplate complete the full military furniture. The lighter stock finish makes the grain and contours particularly visible against the dark metal. CAI, Georgia, Vermont import markings appear on the rifle with its serial designation. The M91/30 is the Soviet development of the Mosin-Nagant infantry-rifle system, retaining the long barrel, five-round fixed magazine and substantial wooden furniture characteristic of that family. The barrel carries the Izhevsk arsenal’s arrow-in-triangle mark. This example has the round-receiver configuration associated with later Soviet M91/30 production. Regular production of round receivers began at Izhevsk in 1935 and at Tula in 1936, placing this configuration in the mid-1930s and later production period. These introduction dates describe the receiver type; they do not establish this individual rifle’s exact year of manufacture. The separate dark stock has its own handguard, barrel bands, buttplate and sling. Its empty receiver and barrel channels are clearly visible, distinguishing it from a second barreled action. The spare stock has a darker, more weathered finish than the light honey-colored stock fitted to the rifle. The fitted light stock has handling marks and scattered discoloration, while the darker spare stock shows more extensive finish wear and flaking. The rifle’s metal and the spare stock’s fittings have patina and edge wear.
