Manufacturer: Colt Type: Revolver Model: .357 (Three Fifty Seven) Caliber: .357 Mag Barrel Length: 4" Optics: Iron Sights ATF Form 4473 Required: Yes Log: 4259 S/N: 5943 Ref #: N/A Notes: Dating to circa 1954, this Colt .357, also known as the Three Fifty Seven, is chambered in .357 Magnum with a 4-inch barrel, six-shot cylinder, blued finish and checkered wooden target grips. The barrel is marked COLT .357 and .357 MAGNUM CTG. A tall ramp front sight and adjustable rear sight give this compact service-size revolver a more developed sighting arrangement than a fixed-sight configuration. The revolver has a fluted swing-out cylinder, exposed hammer and double-action/single-action mechanism. Its ejector rod is exposed beneath the barrel, and the cylinder release sits behind the cylinder on the left side. The frame carries Colt’s rampant-horse emblem, complementing the Colt medallions inset into the wooden grip panels. The warm brown grips contrast with the reflective blue metal, with broad checkered panels bordered by smooth wood. The 4-inch barrel keeps the proportions compact while providing room for the raised front sight and adjustable rear unit. The .357 was Colt’s premium medium-frame Magnum revolver of the early 1950s, built on the I-frame with a frame-mounted firing pin. It preceded the Python, which took over the premium position after its 1955 introduction, and the .357 remained in production until 1961. The model name and chambering share the same designation, but the Three Fifty Seven is a distinct model from the contemporary Trooper. Its fully checkered target grips and adjustable sights reflect that more elaborate original specification. The bluing has scratches, edge wear and localized patina. The grip edges and checkering show handling wear, while the medallions and barrel markings remain distinct.
