Manufacturer: Smith & Wesson Type: Revolver Model: 49 Caliber: .38 SPL Barrel Length: 2" Optics: Iron Sights ATF Form 4473 Required: Yes Log: 4260 S/N: J905410 Ref #: N/A Notes: A Smith & Wesson Model 49 .38 Special five-shot revolver dating to circa 1981, with a 2-inch barrel, dark finish and black rubber grips. A Hunter leather holster accompanies this compact J-frame example. Its raised hammer shroud is the model’s most recognizable feature, giving the rear of the frame a rounded profile while leaving the hammer spur accessible. The revolver has a fluted swing-out cylinder, fixed ramp front sight and rear frame groove. The shrouded hammer preserves the double-action/single-action arrangement, rather than enclosing the hammer completely. Textured wraparound grips with finger grooves provide a fuller gripping surface than the small wooden panels often associated with early J-frame revolvers. The brown Hunter holster is embossed with the maker’s name and Made in U.S.A. It has contrasting light stitching and a snap-fastened retaining strap, with a formed leather body that follows the revolver’s short-barreled profile. The revolver retains dark finish with scratches, edge wear and mottled patina on the frame. The grips show handling wear, and the holster has creases and surface scuffing from use.
