Manufacturer: Mauser Type: Rifle Model: Swedish m/1894 Carbine Caliber: 6.5×55 Swedish Barrel Length: 18" Optics: None ATF Form 4473 Required: No Log: N/A S/N: 3288 Ref #: Notes: A Swedish Mauser m/1894 6.5×55 Swedish carbine with an 1895-dated Oberndorf receiver, an 18-inch barrel and a sporterized wooden stock. The buttstock has carved animal and rectangular motifs, giving this example a distinctive personalized appearance. Loose scope-mount components, hardware and an S&K scope-ring package accompany the rifle; no scope is included. The receiver is marked Waffenfabrik Mauser, Oberndorf and 1895, with serial number 3288. That date places the action in Mauser’s early production for Sweden’s m/1894 carbine program. The 6.5×55mm Swedish chambering is the original cartridge specification for the m/1894 military carbine. The turned-down bolt handle, rear bolt safety and fixed-magazine receiver retain the recognizable Mauser action form, while the shortened fore-end and exposed barrel give the rifle its sporting configuration. The barrel’s front and rear sights are absent. The stock has a straight wrist and a long, plain comb, with the carved animal standing prominently on one side of the butt. Sling attachment fittings remain beneath the stock. The military-action sporting conversion reflects a common later use of Mauser-pattern rifles, although no particular conversion date or maker is established for this example. The loose hardware includes mount pieces, ring components and screws. The S&K package is labeled Scope Mounting Rings for S&K Inst-Mounts, 1 PR #HIB. The fore-end tip is broken with a substantial wood loss, and the stock toe and buttplate have chipped areas. The barrel and receiver show finish thinning and patina, with additional handling marks on the stock.
