Manufacturer: Winchester Type: Rifle Model: 94 Caliber: .30-30 Barrel Length: 20" Optics: Iron Sights ATF Form 4473 Required: Yes Log: 4488 S/N: 2123290 Ref #: N/A Notes: A pre-1964 Winchester Model 94 lever-action rifle in .30-30 Winchester, with a 20-inch round barrel, full-length tubular magazine and straight-grip wood stock. Serial 2123290 places the receiver at approximately 1955 in Winchester’s published reference ranges. The compact barrel, band-retained fore-end and exposed hammer give this example the familiar Model 94 carbine outline. The dark-finished receiver has a right-side loading gate and top ejection opening. Its finger lever follows the straight wrist of the stock, while two barrel bands support the fore-end and magazine-tube arrangement. The brown wood has a smooth finish, with a metal buttplate at the rear. A hood protects the front blade, and the open rear sight has a stepped elevator beneath it. This traditional iron-sight arrangement preserves the rifle’s slim upper profile. The barrel markings identify Winchester, Model 94 and .30-30 Winchester. The Model 94 descends from John M. Browning’s Model 1894 design, an important development in Winchester’s centerfire lever-action line. Its action accommodated longer cartridges while retaining compact proportions, and the association between the Model 94 and .30-30 became a defining feature of the American sporting lever rifle. This receiver’s mid-1950s date places it before Winchester’s 1964 production changes. The rifle presents with normal use wear to the wood and metal. Finish thinning is visible at the receiver edges, while the stock retains its warm brown appearance.
