Manufacturer: Mossberg Type: Shotgun Model: 500A Caliber: 12 GA Barrel Length: 28" Optics: Front and mid-rib bead sights ATF Form 4473 Required: Yes Log: 4316 S/N: P891412 Ref #: N/A Notes: A Mossberg 500A 12 gauge pump-action shotgun with a 28-inch ventilated-rib barrel and checkered wood furniture. The long ribbed barrel, conventional shoulder stock and dual-bead sighting arrangement give this example a traditional sporting-shotgun configuration. Dark-finished metalwork contrasts with the brown stock and sliding fore-end. The raised rib provides a continuous sighting plane above the barrel, with a front bead and a smaller bead partway along the rib. A tubular magazine sits beneath the barrel. The receiver has the characteristic Mossberg top-tang safety, placing the control on the upper rear surface of the action. Checkering panels at the wrist and along the fore-end add gripping texture without interrupting the stock’s smooth contours. A brown ventilated recoil pad finishes the butt. “MOSSBERG,” “NORTH HAVEN, CONN.” and “500A 12 GA.” markings appear beneath the receiver, preserving the maker, place and model identity on the firearm itself. The Model 500 family dates to the early 1960s and became the foundation for a broad range of Mossberg sporting and service shotguns. Its aluminum receiver and steel-to-steel bolt lockup separate the lightweight housing from the locking surfaces, while the centrally positioned tang safety is accessible from either side. This wood-stocked, long-barreled 500A represents the traditional field configuration of that versatile pump-action design. The wood has ordinary use wear, including localized finish loss along the fore-end. The dark metal finish remains largely present, and the rib and bead sights remain fitted.
