Manufacturer: Browning Type: Rifle Model: BLR Model 81 Caliber: .22-250 Rem Barrel Length: 20" Optics: Leupold ATF Form 4473 Required: Yes Log: 4368 S/N: 40604PW227 Ref #: N/A Notes: A Browning BLR Model 81 lever-action rifle in .22-250 Remington, with a 20-inch barrel and mounted Leupold variable-power riflescope. Gloss-finished wood, a straight-grip stock and a gold-colored trigger give this example a traditional sporting appearance. The BLR’s box-magazine architecture distinguishes its profile and cartridge arrangement from the tube-fed lever rifles with which it is often compared. Made in 1984, this short-action Model 81 belongs to the revised BLR generation introduced in 1981, with a flatter-sided receiver and more nearly flush detachable magazine. The combination of a lever action and box-magazine system is a meaningful part of the model’s identity, allowing the BLR family to accommodate sporting rifle cartridges such as the .22-250 Remington. The stock and fore-end have checkered panels, with a light-colored spacer ahead of the black buttplate. A barrel band accents the front of the fore-end, and an open rear sight and ramped front sight remain fitted beneath the scope. The Leupold is held in two rings on a receiver-mounted base and has a compact objective housing and ribbed magnification-control ring. The Leupold maker is established, but its series and complete magnification range remain unconfirmed. The receiver, scope rings and mounting base have substantial rust and finish loss. The wood retains its glossy finish and checkering with accumulated use marks.
