Manufacturer: Smith & Wesson Type: Pistol Model: 4506-1 Caliber: .45 Auto Barrel Length: 5" Optics: Iron Sights ATF Form 4473 Required: Yes Log: 4388 S/N: VBE5285 Ref #: N/A Notes: A Smith & Wesson Model 4506-1 semi-automatic pistol in .45 Auto, with a 5-inch barrel and stainless-steel construction. The full-size frame and slide, exposed hammer and black wraparound grip give this example the substantial profile of Smith & Wesson’s metal-framed 4500-series pistols. The model marking “MOD. 4506-1” appears on the frame beneath serial VBE5285. The 4506 belongs to Smith & Wesson’s Third Generation family of metal-framed centerfire pistols, following the earlier two- and three-digit model series. Its traditional double-action/single-action mechanism pairs an exposed hammer with a slide-mounted safety and decocking control. The stainless frame and full-length slide give this .45 a distinctly substantial form within that broad pistol family. The stainless surfaces contrast with the dark sights, trigger and grip. Rear slide serrations provide a grasping surface behind the ejection port, and slide-mounted levers are present on both sides. A blade front sight is paired with an adjustable rear sight, giving this example a more configurable sighting arrangement than a fixed-sight pistol. The wraparound grip has broad checkered panels and a curved rear surface, following the full-length grip frame. The slide carries the Smith & Wesson Springfield, Massachusetts legend, with the company emblem on the frame. The 5-inch barrel and full-size grip define this as a large sporting/service-pattern .45 rather than a compact variant. No magazine is included. The stainless surfaces show normal use wear and scattered discoloration, with the black grip retaining its checkered texture.
