The front portion of a walrus (Odobenus rosmarus) skull retains a pair of long tusks and is mounted on a shaped wooden plaque. Scrimshaw on the animal's left tusk combines small pictorial motifs with the inscription ‘Top of the World Barrow, Alaska’. The contrasting plain tusk allows the ivory's longitudinal texture to remain a prominent part of the display. A U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service tag remains attached, as photographed. The complete mounted display measures approximately 31 inches long by 14 inches wide by 8 inches deep; the exposed tusks measure approximately 19 inches long.
