A whalebone mask by Brian Sockpick, with a dark, porous face surrounded by a lighter bone ruff. Almond-shaped ivory eyes have dark baleen pupils, and two round ivory labrets accent the lower face. The reverse is signed Sockpick and retains an Alaska Silver Hand tag identifying Brian Sockpick, Iñupiaq, of Nome, Alaska. The face and surrounding ruff are separate joined elements, with pale granular adhesive or filler visible around the join on the reverse. The bone has open pores, uneven edges, surface wear and discoloration. The mask measures approximately 6.5 inches wide by 1 inch deep by 6.75 inches high.
