A Pacific Northwest Coast style orca rattle with a rounded head, a tall dorsal fin and a cord-wrapped handle ending in a carved tail fluke. Red, black, cream and muted green-blue painted details emphasize the eyes, nostrils, teeth and fin, with additional decoration on both faces of the tail. The bold facial modeling and long dorsal fin give the compact form its character. No artist's signature is readily visible, origin unknown, likely Indonesian. The painted surface shows wear and some fading, as photographed. The rattle measures approximately 13 inches long by 3.5 inches wide by 8 inches high.
