A small carved whalebone mask, with a textured porous face framed by a brown fur ruff. Applied ivory details form narrow eyes, a projecting pointed element at one eye and a fluke-shaped mouth ornament; one eye has a dark baleen pupil. A faint reverse mark has been read as W. Wilson, but is not fully legible in the photographs. The fur has been tentatively identified as rabbit. Measures approximately 4.5 x 3 x 6 inches high, including the fur. The bone has irregular pores and a visible split at the lower rear edge; the ivory shows discoloration and surface marks. A wire hanging loop is attached at the back.
