A walrus ivory letter opener with a walrus-at-the-waterline scrimshaw scene and a handle pierced with two elongated openings. Accompanying it is an oval walrus ivory napkin ring with a raised rectangular panel, crosshatched geometric decoration and smaller triangular motifs to either side. Neither piece has a visible maker's signature. The ivory has cream-to-amber coloration, surface scratches, small edge irregularities and darker marks in recessed areas; the ring's interior shows heavier discoloration. The letter opener measures approximately 8 inches overall with a 5-inch blade.
